Any attack on Turkish soldiers, who are set to be deployed in Iraq, would be "unacceptable," Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned on Thursday.

"Turkish soldiers will go there not as a police or gendarmerie force. They will go there for peace and tranquility for the Iraqi people," Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul.

"Hostile approaches towards soldiers ... will be unacceptable," he added.

Earlier this week, the Turkish parliament approved the dispatch of forces to Iraq in response to a U.S. request. (Albawaba.com)
