ALBAWABA - The Turkish National Defense Ministry announced that it has finalized signing contracts for an F-16 procurement deal with the United States.

The statement added that along with signing the contracts, work on fine print and details continues between delegations between the two countries. On January 27, the US State Department signed off on a pending sale of F-16 fighter jets in addition to modernization kits to Turkey.

The deal is worth $23 billion, which was followed with a formal notice to Congress to move forward with the deal. The approval came after Turkey ratified Sweden’s NATO membership.

Turkey requested the purchase of 40 new F-16 Block 70 aircraft and 79 modernization kits to upgrade its remaining aircraft back in December 2021.

In terms of defense sector successes, the ministry confirmed the successful launch of the third submarine, Murat Reis, from the shipyard, as well as the shipment of Boran howitzers and Vuran vehicles to Georgia.

An agreement was also reached with Malaysia to provide technical and logistical assistance for various aircrafts.
