Tunisia, freshly returned from a training course at Selestat (Bas-Rhin), beat Russia 28-26 at handball Friday evening in a match leading up to the 2005 World Championships which will take place 23 January to 6 February in Tunisia. Previously, the team appeared in Switzerland with the Swiss, Norwegian and Polish team. At the 2005 world championships, they will be put in group A together with Denmark, France, Greece, Angola and Canada.

The result is considered significant because Russia was the Olympic Champion in 2000 and won the bronze medal in 2004. A few days earlier, Russia beat Tunisia 28-25.
