ALBAWABA - Despite releasing the crew of the Israeli-linked ship Galaxy Leader, which was detained on November 19, 2023, US President Donald Trump re-marked Houthi as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, the White House announced.
It said in a statement: "Reversing the Biden administration's removal of the Houthis from the Foreign Terrorist Organization list: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order re-designating Ansar Allah (also known as the Houthis) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization."
The White House justified the decision made by Trump by saying that the Yemeni group launched attacks against U.S. Navy warships, and numerous attacks on civilian infrastructure in partner nations, they also attacked commercial vessels transiting Bab al-Mandeb "more than 100 times."
Back in 2021, Trump placed the Iranian-backed group as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO). But, When former President Joe Biden took office he removed the Houthis from the list.
After Trump's decision, USAID will be requested to halt ties with entities that have made payments to the Houthi group, or which have opposed international efforts to counter the Yemeni group while turning a blind eye towards the group’s "terrorism and abuses."
