The Algerian National Library is organizing homage to the thinker and Koran translator, Jacques Berque, by organizing an exhibition in his honor. This will serve as a showcase of Jacque Berque’s work as well as of books written about him by Algerian and French intellectuals.
Jacques Berque was born in Algeria in 1910. Being educated in Algeria and Paris, Berque had a chair in the Social History of Contemporary Islam in the College of France for twenty-five years. The director of the National Library Zaoui Amine, reports Liberte Algerie, described the work of Jacques Berque as “the capital of science, and as a dialogue of cultures and tolerance".
