The Islamic Research Academy at the Azhar, meeting under the chairmanship of the Sheikh of Azhar, Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, has issued an edict forbidding the description of present day Jews as “monkeys and pigs.”
IINA reported Wednesday that this decision was adopted following a request by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs that indicated that the embassy in Washington had learnt that there was objection among Americans to the use of this description of the Jews in sermons delivered by some Muslim preachers.
In a weekly sermon during April 2002, Tantawi described the Jews as "the enemies of Allah, sons of pigs and apes." (Albawaba.com)
