Tanmia, the National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority, today (Wednesday, February 8, 2006), held a ceremony to felicitate government departments and companies from the public and private sector in the UAE who have demonstrated their support and patronage for Tanmia’s programmes that propelled the Emiratisation drive in the year 2005.

The organisations that were honoured at the ceremony included, National Bank of Dubai, Dubai Islamic Bank, Dubal, Belhasa Group of companies, Bin Ham Group, Saeed Ahmed Lootah Group, Emarat, Microsoft Gulf FZ, Emirates Institute of Banking and Financial Studies, University of Sharjah, Institute for Cultural and Scientific Studies (ICSS), Dessart Production and Dubai Police.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Dr. Ali Abdullah Al Kaabi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Tanmia, said, “The success and effectiveness of the Emiratisation drive in the UAE depends on the combined responsibility and efforts of the government and the private sector. We are glad that the country’s private sector enterprises have duly recognised this and come forward to extend their whole-hearted support and co-operation to Tanmia’s Emiratisation programs.”

“The progress of any country depends a lot on its youngsters and the same will be true for the UAE. The country has achieved an enviable pace of growth in the recent years and although the contribution of our youngsters has been limited thus far, I am confident that with better job opportunities and greater responsibilities, UAE Nationals will play a major role in the economic prosperity of the country. The Emiratisation drive is the first step towards achieving this goal and I am glad that Tanmia has been successful in its efforts. I sincerely thank all the companies that have supported Tanmia through the years and we look forward to their continued patronage in future,” he added.

2005 was a highly successful year for Tanmia as it was instrumental in providing suitable employment opportunities for a large percentage of UAE National jobseekers registered in its database. The employment authority joined hands with several companies from both the private and public sector to provide training to job applicants to enhance their chances of employment and to help them efficiently carry out their duties at the workplace.

Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market. The responsibilities that rest with the Authority are: to set up the overall policy of the Authority and supervise its implementation, conduct sustained operational and administrative labour market studies and analysis, provide career counseling and guidance to the national work force, follow-up and evaluate employment of nationals in public and private sectors, support small investment enterprises through the establishment of self-employment projects for national human resources and develop programmes for training and qualifying nationals seeking employment, in conformity with the labour market needs.
