Taliban: earthquake kills 2000 in Afghanistan

ALBAWABA - A Taliban spokesperson said Sunday that the death toll in the 6.3-magnitude earthquake has risen to 2000, the Associated Press reported.

Meanwhile, an Afghan Red Crescent spokesman reported that at least 500 people were killed due to the strong earthquake that struck the country. 

The strong earthquake affected six villages, as hundreds of civilians were buried under the debris, Abdul Wahid Rayan, spokesperson of the Ministry of Information and Culture, said.

Afghanistan described the earthquake as one of the deadliest earthquakes to strike the country in two decades.

According to media reports, hundreds of people were feared dead and more than one thousand are believed injured after a 6.3 earthquake hit western Afghanistan.
