Syrian VP meets Iraqi delegation

Syria's Vice-President Abdul Halim Khaddam received on Saturday, an Iraqi delegation of intellectuals comprising of writers, authors, poets and journalists, led by Mansour al-Hadithi. 

 

During the meeting, Khaddam expressed hope that these meetings would enhance open dialogue between the two sides, SANA reported. 

 

Khaddam renewed Syria’s adherence to the Pan-Arab principles and support to the Iraqi people, stressing the importance of enhancing the Iraqi national unity. 

 

Later, in a statement to the media Khaddam said that he discussed with the Iraqi intellectuals the situation on the Iraqi and Arab arenas. 

 

In response to a question regarding the Syrian initiative on the weapons of mass destruction, Khaddam said: "This initiative was presented to the UN Security Council before the recent Libyan initiative, and Syria and the Arab countries will follow-up it inside and outside the UN Security Council." 

 

Regarding the peace process in the region, Khaddam said "Syria’s policy is very clear and Syria wants peace and the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions". (Albawaba.com)
