Syria's state-run television said Sunday that Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam was in "satisfactory" condition after collapsing at a meeting in northern Lebanon, said AFP.
"Our correspondent in Tripoli reports that the condition of Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam is satisfactory, following his admission to hospital after being taken ill," the television said in a message shown on the screen during a religious broadcast.
Khaddam was speaking at a meeting to mark the 14th anniversary of the assassination of then Lebanese prime minister Rashid Karame on June 1, 1987.
Lebanon's Future Television quoted hospital sources as saying he had "suffered sudden heart problems and a sharp fall in blood pressure.”
After his collapse, former prime minister Omar Karame announced the end of the meeting, which was taking place in extremely hot weather.
Khaddam was in charge of Lebanese affairs in the Syrian government, which holds political sway over Lebanon, from 1975 to 1998 – Albawaba.com
