Syrian President Bashar Assad will pay a three-day official visit to Spain on May 2nd, reported the official KUNA news agency on Sunday.
It will be the first visit by a Syrian president to the European country in 30 years, said the agency.
Syrian ambassador to Madrid, Muhsen Bilal told KUNA that “the President will hold talks with King Juan Carlos and Prime minister Jose Maria Aznar.”
Their talks will focus on means to develop bilateral relations, especially within the economic field, in addition to discussing the situation in the Middle East, he added.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports have said that Assad will visit Washington in May for talks with US President George W. Bush.
Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak held talks with Bush last week, and Jordan’s King Abdullah, currently in Washington, is set to have a similar meeting with the president on Tuesday – Albawaba.com
