ALBAWABA - Syrian President Bashar Assad met with Jordan's Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi in the Syrian capital Damascus.
It was the first visit by a senior Jordanian official to neighboring Syria since the outbreak of the civil war there in 2011. It comes nine days after a devastating quake struck that country's north and neighboring Turkey's south, killing at least 41,000 people and injuring thousands more.
Safadi arrived at Damascus airport on Wednesday morning. He met his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad.

Safadi will also visit Turkey, according to an official statement released in the Jordanian capital Amman.
The talks in both Syria and Turkey focus on the humanitarian situation and the needs of both countries following the destructive earthquake.
Jordan dispatched humanitarian supplies to the two countries, under the directives of King Abdullah II.
It is slated to send a plane-load of humanitarian aid to Syria later Wednesday, when another plane will carry the same for Turkey.
