Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is expected to visit Cairo Monday for a working visit and for talks with President Hosni Mubarak, it was disclosed in the Egyptian capital Sunday.
The Cairo-based al-Gumhuriya said President Mubarak would brief his Syrian counterpart with regards to the outcome of the Egyptian-Saudi summit talks held in Riyadh last week.
The two leaders are also to discuss Arab efforts currently underway, aimed at sparing Iraq from a possible US military strike, following Baghdad's approval to receive UN weapons inspectors in a bid that would pave the way for a diplomatic solution, the newspaper added.
According to the report, the two leaders are to explore means of addressing the deteriorated situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. Last Thursday, Mubarak and Assad discussed over the phone the latest developments in the Middle East region. (Albawaba.com)
