The Syrian dailies, Tishrin and Al-Thawra on Tuesday firmly criticized the United States diplomatic drive in the Middle-East region, emphasizing that the efforts, exerted by Washington, “do not aim at halting the Israeli aggression in the occupied Palestinian territories, on the contrary, they aim at meeting the security demands of the government of Tel-Aviv.”

Tishrin reported that the American efforts proceeded according to the “wishes” of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, causing aggravation to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

“It’s the Palestinian people who really need security”, the paper conveyed, stressing that, “veritable security should be based on a just and comprehensive peace”, the official Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported.

Meanwhile, al-Thawra daily expressed “pessimism” over the outcome of U.S undersecretary William Burns current tour in the region.

Burns is expected to visit Damascus Tuesday in the framework of his regional tour, which will later take him to Beirut, according to Israel Radio.

The “Inutility of Burn’s tour is due to a number of reasons; the blind U.S bias in favor of Israel, Washington’s insistence on covering the crimes committed by Israel with the aim of satisfying the Zionist Lobby in the U.S”, due to its, “role in the upcoming elections of the American congress” as well as the United States “refusal to recognize that the problem lies in the persistence of the Israeli occupation”, the Syrian daily said.
