Syria Tuesday branded as "threats and falsifications" U.S. accusations that Damascus was developing chemical weapons.

The cabinet said in a statement the "escalated language of threats and accusations by some American officials against Syria are aimed at damaging its steadfastness and influencing its national decisions and national stances."

"The cabinet rejected these accusations and allegations and saw them as a response to Israeli stimulus and a service to its goals and expansive greed," it said, and demanded an end of the "American-British occupation of Iraq."

Meanwhile, the Syrian news agency (SANA) reported that Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received on Tuesday a phone call from his Spanish counterpart Mrs. Anna Palacio. Al-Shara also received a phone call from his Iranian counterpart, Kamal Kharazi. "The conversations dealt with the latest developments in the Iraqi arena and issues of mutual concern," the news agency said. (Albawaba.com)
