A senior wanted member in an Islamist group was killed on Tuesday when he activated his explosive belt during a clash with Syrian security forces on the main crossing point into Lebanon, an official source from Syria's ministry of interior said. The incident took place in Jedeidet Yabus, some 40 km west of Damascus.

The source said the 28 year old Syrian Omar Abdullah also known as Omar Hamra tried on 13:45 (local time) to cross the border with fake documents. When Syrian agents stopped him he brandished a pistol and fired at them. As he tried to escape he activated his explosive belt, killing himself. Two Syrian security agents were wounded.

Nine forged IDs with various names  were found with the "terrorist," who exploded himself. These IDs were used by Hamra to cross the border.

Hamra was a military official in the al-Tawheid and Jihad al-Takfiri organization - an al Qaeda affiliated group.
