Syria will hold legislative elections on March 2, according to a decree issued Wednesday by President Bashar al-Assad and published by the Syrian Arab News Agency

These will mark the first elections for the 250-member parliament since Assad ascended to power in July 2000.

The decree stipulates that 127 of those elected must represent farmers and workers, with the remaining 123 representing "other categories of people." (Albawaba.com)
