At least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in retaliatory air strike attacks from Israeli warplanes Monday, according to the Associated Press.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) attacked nine military targets within Syria’s borders in response to the first fatal cross-border attack from Syria on Sunday that left one Arab Israeli teenager dead and two others wounded in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
"Yesterday's attack was an unprovoked act of aggression against Israel, and a direct continuation to recent attacks that occurred in the area," said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a military spokesman, according to AP. “[The IDF] will not tolerate any attempt to breach Israel's sovereignty and will act in order to safeguard the civilians of the state of Israel.
IDF later confirmed that all of the raids Monday were direct hits.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Monday that at least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in the Israeli raids.
"At least 10 Syrian soldiers were killed in Israeli raids against military positions next to the occupied part of the Golan. Nine missiles were fired by aircraft and at least two tanks and two artillery batteries were destroyed," the Observatory said, according to Agence France Presse.
The Israeli raids early Monday primarily targeted Syrian military headquarters and launching positions said the IDF.
