Syria's Ministry of electricity strongly denied on Friday it had stopped providing Lebanon with electricity saying such news is absolutely "baseless" and aimed at destroying the "brotherly" relations between the two countries.

"The news of cutting electrical current out to Lebanon that was circulated by some biased media that are well known by its being far from truth is totally baseless," the ministry said in a statement, clarifying that "it aimed at destroying the brotherly relations between the two countries and that mass media had made use of urgent cases due to merely technical reasons."

According to SANA, it added that what happened was because of a technical failure that led to cut linking lines and this would be tackled as quick as possible.

The ministry noted the style and way of operating networks of electrical grid that requires in some cases untying of lines link and that's what sometimes happens between Syria and Jordan or Egypt and Jordan underlining that "Syria provides a big boosting to Lebanon mainly in the sector of electricity."

It pointed out to the continuous coordination between the two ministries in both countries as well as the knowledge of the ministry of electricity and water in Lebanon of these circumstances, saying "the ministry of electricity in Syria does not delay in extending the boosting and aid to Lebanon as the habit was in recent years."
