Sultanate and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today issued a joint communiqué at the end of Sultan Qaboos bin Said's visit to the Kingdom from 5th-7th June in response to an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud and Crowne Prince Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud.

    During the visit, the Sultan held a number of meetings with Crowne Prince Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the National Guard.  

    Aspects of the existing cooperation between the two countries in all fields and ways and means of further enhancing joint cooperation were reviewed during these meetings, besides new developments related to regional and international issues.

    The Omani and Saudi sides expressed satisfaction over the level of joint ties and agreed to deepen and consolidate joint relations in all fields.

 According to ONA,  the two sides also exchanged view points on regional and international matters of joint interest and noted the outcome of the AGCC leaders' consultative meeting held on 28th May 2005 in Riyadh and the stances adopted by the leaders on political, security, regional and international issues including the Palestinian cause, the peace process in the Middle-East, combating terrorism, the development and modernization in the region and infra-regional relations.

     In this regard, the two sides affirmed that the AGCC's ability to counter the challenges would be based on the unity of stances within the council.

     The Omani and Saudi sides reviewed the political and security situation in the Iraq and expressed support for Iraq and the political process aimed at preserving its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

    The two sides also expressed keenness to end the sufferings of Iraqi people and look forward to recovery of Iraq and restoring its role as an effective member in the Gulf, the Arab and the world, living in peace with its neighbors.

     On developments in the Palestinian arena and the peace process in the Middle-East, the two sides demanded that the Israeli government stop aggression against the Palestinians, the expansion of settlements, the continuation of building the dividing wall and the policies of going back on agreements and commitments with other parties.

     The communiqué said comprehensive and just peace in the Middle-East without applying principle of land for peace, the creation of a viable independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and living side by side in peace and security with Israel and Israel withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Julan to the border line existing on 4/6/1967 and also from Shaba'a farms in South Lebanon.

     On external threats posed by globalization, terrorism and others, the two sides renewed call for a concerted international effort to fight terrorism which threatens the world peace and security. In this context, the two sides reviewed recommendations made by the international conference on combating terrorism prominent among which was a proposal from Crowne Prince Abdullah on establishing an anti-terrorism international centre.

     The Omani and Saudi sides reviewed developments of the AGCC march of joint cooperation in economic, social, information and military fields since the Supreme Council 25th session. They expressed satisfaction over achievements on this regard and affirmed the Council is strategic option for the Arab Gulf states.

    Sultan expressed his thanks and appreciation to King Fahd, Crowne Prince and Saudi government and people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to His Majesty and the accompanying delegation and looked forward to Crowne Prince Abdullah visiting the Sultanate.
