A car bomb exploded late Tuesday outside an office used by American forces in northern Iraq, private CNN-Turk television reported. At least one Iraqi was killed and six Americans injured, the U.S. military said.
According to reports, a suicide bomber killed a child and injured over 50 people, including six US defence staff, in the attack.
The wounded included Iraqi Kurdish guards and children from nearby houses. A Turkish reporter at the scene said by telephone that the blast collapsed the front of the two-story building.
Authorities in Irbil, the administrative capital of Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq about 320 kilometers north of Baghdad, called to residents over loudspeakers to donate blood for the wounded, CNN-Turk added.
Meanwhile, Egypt's MENA news agency reported that the car bomb killed and injured a "large number" of people.
According to the agency, quoting witnesses, the explosion was set off near a checkpoint of the Kurdish Democratic Party of Massoud Barzani.
"The car was packed with large quantities of explosives, a large number of people were killed and injured," it said. (Albawaba.com)
