Traffic through the Suez Canal was interrupted for one hour on Wednesday when a cargo ship got stuck on a sandbar, according to canal authorities.

The Liberian-flagged Alfa Tank ran aground near a bank of the narrow canal between Port Said and Ismailia. It stopped traffic between 9:00 am and 10:00 am before it was towed to deeper water.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the Netherlands-flagged cargo ship Hong Kong Express collided with the Panama-flagged Sara Glory early Wednesday at the northern canal entrance of Port Said, the authorities said, cited by AFP

The accident did not affect canal traffic, however caused damage to both ships, and containers fell into the water, port sources said. Nobody was reported wounded in either accident. (Albawaba.com)
