A Beirut criminal court sentenced a Sudanese man to death Tuesday after finding him guilty of murdering and robbing an Eritrean man in Beirut two years ago, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
The court also stripped Hassan Khalil Ahmad of his civil rights and ordered him to pay LL75 million in compensation to the parents of the victim, Menfesteb Beckett.
Ahmad lured Beckett to his apartment in February 1999 after promising to find him a job, and shot him to death from a distance of about 2 meters.
He then hid the body in a barrel which he filled with cement and left in a garbage dump. Police discovered the body two months later, said the paper.
