ALBAWABA - The Sudanese Army said Tuesday that forces repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Babnousa city.
The Sudanese army spokesman said in a statement that the RSF attempted to target the city of Babnousa with artillery shelling and "strategic drones," despite a unilateral ceasefire announced earlier by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
RSF head Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commonly known as Hemedti, declared on Nov. 24 a unilateral three-month truce in Sudan, a deal that was rejected by the army head General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Babnousa city is located in the West Kordofan state, south of Sudan.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF started on April 15, 2023. During the past two years, at least 40,000 people were killed, and 12 million were displaced, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
