Sudan and Uganda agreed on Saturday to restore diplomatic relations, which they broke off six years ago over mutual accusations of aid to rebel groups, reported the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Ugandan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Uganda had decided to restore diplomatic relations with Sudan at the level of charge d'affaires, “a matter that would expedite finding a solution for pending problems with Sudan.”
The ministry said the decision came on the basis of mediation by Libyan leader Moammer Kadhafi, who visited Sudan on Thursday.
In September last year, former US President Jimmy Carter brought the two sides together for reconciliation.
They agreed to stop supporting each other's rebel groups and offer amnesty to former insurgents who renounced the use of violence.
