Talks aimed at putting an end to nearly twenty years of civil conflict in Sudan are due to resume in Kenya on Monday, in the wake of fresh hostilities and mutual accusations of war-mongering.

The war and related famine have killed an estimated 1.5 million people and displaced another four million, according to AFP. Held amidst intense and sometimes competing interests from the international community and from big business, the negotiations between the Islamic regime in Khartoum and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) are meant to fill in the gaps left by a deal the sides struck in Kenya on July 20th.
