Some 80.56 percent of the expatriates employed in the private sector in Dubai are Asians, while UAE nationals and other Arabs account for 9.05 percent and 7.61 percent of the workforce, respectively. The share of Europeans is 2.01 and other nationalities make up just over three-fourths of a percent.
Citing the Comprehensive Statistical Survey carried out by the Dubai Municipality to count the population, buildings, housing and establishments in the emirate, the Khaleej Times said that as many as 437,248 people were working and residing in Dubai. Of these, 400,764 were males and the remaining 36,484 were women.
This is in addition to 26,973 people who are working in the emirate but staying outside Dubai. About 3,035 employees are working in the rural areas of the emirate.
According to the survey, Dubai is home to 37,775 private establishments, followed by 950 'foreign' companies, 168 public/joint stock companies, and 110 organizations placed in 'other' category.
Out of this, 515 employers are located in rural areas, including 492 private establishments and five public/joint stock companies.
The document reveals that a total of 378,807 Asians - 352,586 males and 26,221 women - eke out a living in the emirate. Out of this, 332,766 males and 22,316 women work in private establishments, while 6,456 males and 1,173 women are employed with the public/joint stock companies – Albawaba.com
