ALBAWABA - A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Japan, leaving at least 30 people injured, officials said on Tuesday.

According to Japanese authorities, the quake damaged roads and left thousands of people without power amid low winter temperatures.

The Japan Meteorological Agency detailed that the quake rocked the region at 11:15 p.m. local time on Monday.

The agency also warned people that similar or stronger earthquakes could hit Japan in the coming days.

Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi announced that the quake injured 30 people off the coast of the northern Aomori region. The earthquake triggered tsunami waves up to 70 centimetres.

The Asian country's Fire and Disaster Management Agency said one was seriously hurt in the main northern island of Hokkaido, AFP reported.
