STME, the Middle East’s leading enterprise storage solution provider and integrator, has signed a major deal with Saudi Arabian Airlines, the Saudi national airlines, to revamp the airlines’ storage infrastructure by implementing the latest information storage solution. STME has implemented StorageTek VSM - the state-of-the-art storage Enterprise Tape infrastructure solution from its partner StorageTek - to enable Saudi Arabian Airlines to meet increased business demands.
StorageTek VSM offers high scalability and ensures a high level of data protection. The solution features a high-tech robotic design, and helps improve operating efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership by maximizing the value of storage investments and minimizing the use of mainframe production resources.
“STME is pleased to partner with a reputed carrier like Saudi Arabian Airlines, which has established itself as a premier airline in the Middle East,” said Peter Aubrey, CEO, STME. “Implementation of StorageTek VSM will transform the storage infrastructure of Saudia, who can now benefit from the unmatched scalability the solution offers, while being assured of highly available and well-protected data.”
“STME has built its reputation as a market leader on the strength of its unique design and implementation skills and its unparalleled ability to provide high-quality, round-the-clock, post-sales support to clients. STME’s support expertise has been a central factor in this project coming our way, and our team of highly-specialized engineering personnel will be dedicated to the service of Saudi Arabian Airlines, providing 24/7 support. We have also provided technical training to enable them to handle the state-of-the-art Enterprise Tape system. Training the customer is an integral part of STME’s total solution offering, as it enables customers to build their knowledge-base and allow them to effectively leverage the technology to derive maximum benefits,” Aubrey added.
Nasser Al Bassam, Assistant General Manager, Technical Support, Saudi Arabian Airlines, said, “Our requirements centered on implementing a state-of-the-art solution that would satisfy our operational availability, capacity and performance requirements. We wanted a solution that meets the increasing business demands of today and also one that accommodates future growth. Besides being performance-driven, the solution had to be flexible enough to accommodate a wide variety of business applications. To achieve and select the best solution that meets all these requirements, our IT department designed and approved a comprehensive selection cycle process that defines requirements, benchmarks vendor’s proposals against the defined requirement and designs an evaluation criteria that clearly identifies the best vendor and solution.”
“The evaluation process concluded that STME/STK solution met all operational, capacity and performance requirements specified in the published RFP and provided the best Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) among all the offers we received. StorageTek VSM suited our requirements just right, and STME’s unique expertise in implementing such solutions made them an obvious choice as partner,” he added.
The StorageTek VSM system provides an intelligently managed disk buffer between the mainframe servers and the tape storage system, enabling high drive and cartridge utilization and minimal storage costs. Moreover, data protection and disaster recovery applications are enhanced by the VSM system’s automation of tape management. StorageTek VSM’s user-defined policies enable organizations to store the right data on the right device at the right time, and allows for cost-effective protection of business-critical information based on its changing value over time.
Jocelyn Al Adwani, Deputy CEO, STME, said, “The implementation of the project commenced in end-January, and with STME having successfully completed all tasks involved, Saudi Arabian Airlines can start running the solution anytime now. STME’s local support staff in Jeddah will be on hand to ensure that the cut-over from the old legacy solution to the new state-of-the-art one goes smoothly.”
