ALBAWABA - A man was killed, and two others were critically injured in a stabbing attack in Sydney, Australia, police announced on Tuesday, as reported by DPA.
Emergency services were called to a suburb in western Sydney at around 10 a.m. local time after reports that a man had stabbed several people and then fled the scene, according to a statement from New South Wales Police. The attack occurred on a busy shopping street.
Senior Police Officer Simon Glaser said paramedics treated three people for serious injuries, including a man in his 30s or 40s who died at the scene.
He added that the other two victims, a 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Glaser noted that the man was arrested shortly afterwards during a police operation in the area. He explained that the suspect is known to police for minor offences and several mental health-related incidents and is expected to appear in court later on Tuesday.
Glaser said: "The investigation is still in its early stages, and police do not yet know the motive behind the attack. However, it appears to have been a random attack."
