Srilankan Airlines categorically denied on Monday any move to stop or even curtail its services to Doha, reported the Gulf Times.
Reacting to a report in the Sunday Times of Colombo, Chanaka Olagama, the airline’s Qatar manager, said the report was "inaccurate, malicious and baseless."
The report, “quoting airline sources” in Colombo, said as part of cost-cutting measures, the airline was planning to close down overseas offices and stop flights to several destinations including Doha, Sydney, Stockholm and Beirut.
Following the publication of the report, Olagama immediately got in touch with the headquarters and got the assurance that Doha was not even being considered for a shutdown, said the paper.
He admitted that SriLankan and its part owner Emirates, which is managing the airline, indeed have plans to merge its airport operations “wherever possible.” But “nothing is definite.”
