Sri Lanka’s exports to Saudi Arabia reached 23 million dollars last year, compared with 12 million dollars in 1999, reported the Sunday Times newspaper on Saturday.

Sri Lanka also achieved a 16.5 percent growth in its tea exports to the Kingdom, which rose from 9.8 tons in 1999 to 11.4 tons in 2000.

The major exporting item from Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia is tea, followed by ready-made garments, fruits and vegetables, coconut milk powder, spices and condiments, while recently introduced products into the Saudi Arabian market are brushes and brooms, said the Times.

Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Al-Haj Nowfel S. Jabir has recently said that Sri Lanka has maintained a 60 percent market share of Saudi Arabia's annual tea requirements of 16,000 tons – Albawaba.com
