Defending champions South Africa have thrown down the gauntlet to the 15 other nations competing in next month’s Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby 7s with coach Paul Treu predicting his men can make it a Dubai double.

The Springbok coach issued his strong statement after revealing the names of the 12 men he believes can retain the event’s top trophy when the opening round of the IRB Sevens is held from December 1-3. Treu emphasised the squad’s balance of all the elements required for Sevens success.

"We have strong leadership, international experience, young talent and a good balance of pace, power, skill and flair to ensure that we do well,” he said. “I have no doubt about our chances of victory in Dubai. Our focus now will be on fine tuning the game strategy so that we are ready for all opposition we may face next month”.
