The Prosecutor General at Jordan’s State Security Court is expected Wednesday to free on bail six out of seven detainees who are members the Anti Normalization Committee at the Jordanian Professional Associations.

Albawaba.com has learnt that the only remaining detainee will be Ali Abu Sukkar, the Committee head, while Ali Hattar is still at large. He is believed to be in Iraq.

According to well-informed sources, it is still possible that the prosecutor, Colonel Mahmoud Obeidat, may also release of Abu Al Sukkar on bail any time now particularly after the Jordanian security forces inspected his office at the engineering association “without finding any evidence against the suspects.”

They said that the papers and documents captured by the security forces were merely minutes of meetings and papers regarding studies, workshops and publications issued by the committee.

The sources expected that the case would be presented to a civil court particularly after some of those whose names were listed on the Committee’s publication as “ Normalizers” have filed defamation cases against Abu Al Sukkar and his colleagues.

One of them, Abdul Razaq Dajani, had informed Albawaba.com of his intention to sue the activists for libel after his name was included in the list. He denied any links with Israel.

The Jordanian security forces launched late January a campaign that led to the arrest of seven members of the committee, which has been crusading against businessmen, intellectuals and politicians who deal with Israel after Jordan signed a peace treaty with its ex-foe in 1994.

The arrests came two days after authorities threatened the associations with curtailing their political activities through amending the associations’ law by removing obligatory membership.

There are 13 associations working under the Islamist-dominated professional associations union, which has more than 100,000 member – Albawaba.com
