Prime Minister Ilir Meta claimed Monday that his governing Socialist Party had won victory in the first round of legislative elections in Albania.
"The Socialists have won," said Meta, who heads the party.
Some 60 percent of voters turned out Sunday to cast ballots in the election of deputies to the 140-seat parliament.
The Socialist Party won 45 seats, according to secretary general Gramoz Ruci. The opposition Democratic Party won 34 seats, according to one of its leaders, Shpetim Rroqi.
