Co-operation between the Republic of Singapore and the State of Kuwait was further cemented today as His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, Minister of Communications and Health of the State of Kuwait and Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts of the Republic of Singapore signed a second Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on joint e-Government initiatives.

The signing of the agreement follows the success of the first MOU signed in September 2004, under which the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) developed an Implementation Blueprint for the establishment of a new IT entity and an e-Government blueprint for the State of Kuwait. The second phase of the partnership between the two nations will see them work together to select suitable private sector suppliers to implement projects identified under the e-Government blueprint. Singapore will also serve take up an advisory role to Kuwait on Information Technology and e-Government matters. The MOU will also lead to the establishment of a Kuwait Information Development Authority.

With Singapore renowned for its speed of adoption and robust technology infrastructure, many of the country’s ICT companies have demonstrated their expertise in vertical sectors such as e-government, healthcare, logistics and financial services both domestically and internationally. With the Middle East rapidly entering the global IT arena there are now significant opportunities for Singaporean infocomm companies to share knowledge and share best practices, for mutually beneficial relationships.
