A Lebanese motorist was killed and his passenger injured during a shootout with Syrian soldiers manning a checkpoint in the eastern part of Lebanon on Monday, according to witnesses.
The two Lebanese got into an argument that eventually turned into an armed clash with Syrian soldiers at a checkpoint near Baalbek in the Bekaa Valley, they added, however the reasons behind the dispute were not known.
The driver, identified as Suleiman Ali Ismael, was killed and Ali Yunes wounded in the course of the fire exchange. The injured passenger was subsequently transported to hospital in Baalbek for treatment, the witnesses said, cited by AFP.
