Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was rushed to hospital in Jerusalem on Sunday evening, Channel 2 television news reported. Sharon was unconscious when he arrived, but later regained consciousness. He was taken straight to the trauma room. Channel 10 quoted the hospital as saying that the prime minister was not in danger of his life.

The Prime Minister's Office said that the decision to hospitalize the 77 year old leader was taken after he said he did not feel well.

In an official statement made by the hospital, a spokesman told the press that Sharon was fully conscious and was undergoing tests. He said that the results of the tests would be made known later. Doctors were trying to ascertain whether Sharon has suffered a minor stroke, it was reported.

Sharon is expected to stay in the hospital for at least few days.
