The Palestinian Authority will not attend any proposed middle east peace conference if Lebanon and Syria are not present, Palestinian minister of international cooperation and planning Nabil Shaath said Tuesday.

The Minister told reporters, following his meeting with Lebanese president Emile Lahoud, that "we want an effective conference in order to be able to return to a correct peace process.

"The international conference should be useful and should lead to results, it should not be just a photo opportunity with whomever represents Israel in that conference," he made clear, according to the Kuwait News Agency.

Shaath said the, "conference should include a timetable (for negotiations) and should be accompanied by international guarantees."

He further stated that the conference ought to be based on a Saudi-proposed peace plan, which offers normal relations to Israel in return for its withdrawal from all Arab territories occupied since 1967. (Albawaba.com)
