Seven generals defected from the ranks of the Syrian army to take refuge in Turkey yesterday, joining hundreds of other soldiers and senior officers who defected, reported the Anatolia news agency. The defected Generals have crossed the border up to the town of Reyhanli in Hatay province, said Anatolia. They were taken by the Turkish authorities to Apaydin refugee camp, in the same province, which houses all Syrian soldiers who have defected, according to the agency.
Meanwhile, the Turkish authorities Thursday forced an Armenian plane en route to Syria to land and carried out inspection. The plane landed in the city of Erzurum in Eastern Turkey, local media reported.
On October 15, the first Armenian plane en route to Syria was forced to land in Turkey but was finally allowed to leave after an inspection had confirmed that it was carrying humanitarian aid. According to the Turkish NTV news channel, the plane intercepted Thursday also transported humanitarian aid.
At least 101 people have died in violence across the country on Wednesday. In the last 48 hours, bombings and car bomb killed 30 civilians in Qoudsaya at the western suburbs of Damascus. At Nabak, near Damascus, a suicide car bomb blew up near a position og the army, killing six soldiers.
