A car bomb went off on the outskirts of the city of Fallujah on Monday, killing seven American troops and wounding several others, a U.S. military official told The AP. In addition, three Iraqi national guardsmen killed.
The ambush, which destroyed two Humvees, took place in the town of Saqlawiya, some 15 kilometers north of Fallujah.
Four Iraqis were injured by fire from American soldiers near the site of the blast, said Ahmed Bassem of the Fallujah General Hospital.
The military also said an unmanned U.S. spy aircraft crashed Monday in Fallujah. Residents picked up pieces of the drone and danced in the streets, witnesses said.
In Baghdad, three American troops were wounded in a roadside bombing Monday.
In northern Iraq, gunmen shot and killed a Norwegian woman married to an Iraqi Kurd and slightly injured her daughter, a police officer said Monday.
Also in the north, U.S. and Iraqi national guardsmen clashed with resistance fighters in the city of Mosul, the U.S. military said. Hospital officials said three Iraqi civilians were killed and nine others injured in the fighting late Sunday. (albawaba.com)
