Serco, the international service company, has been selected to continue providing air traffic services at the Dubai International Airport for the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) of Dubai.

Serco has provided services to the airport for more than 40 years. This latest agreement runs for two years and involves around 80 Serco people providing Air traffic control (ATC), Electronic engineering, Meteorological services and Airside Operations.  Provision of the services is shared with approximately 140 DCA Air Traffic Services staff many of whom have been trained by Serco, as mandated in the contract.

Dubai International is the region’s busiest airport. In 2005 it is expected to handle around 25 million passengers, well in excess of 1million tons of cargo, and approximately 220,000 large aircraft movements many of which are operated by Emirates Airline, Dubai’s award winning airline.

John Ashcroft, Managing Director of Serco in the Middle East said: “We have provided ATC in support of Dubai Airport since the 1960s and are pleased to have been selected to continue providing the high quality services demanded at this busy airport.

“This agreement shows we are committed to delivering mission-critical services,   helping a client achieve their ambitions by being flexible and building long term relationships.”

Dubai airport is undergoing a $4.1 billion expansion and development programme, and has seen very high increases in traffic movements over the past few years. In addition to being the home base for Emirates Airline, the airport provides facilities for over 105 international airlines. The development of a new airport at Jebel Ali will further increase the complexity in coming years.
