Three American troops were killed in separate attacks Sunday in central Iraq, the military said. One soldier was killed and another wounded during an attack on their combat logistics patrol near Samarra, north of Baghdad, the US military said in a statement. A U.S. Marine was killed by a bomb Saturday in central Iraq, the military said. The Marine died of injuries caused by an explosion during combat operations in Karmah, 50 miles west of Baghdad, the military said in a statement. The Marine was assigned to Regimental Combat Team-8, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.
Two soldiers also died during combat operations in an explosion near Khaldiyah, west of Baghdad, the military said.
Elsewhere, four servicemen from the U.S.-led occupation were killed and seven wounded late Saturday when they were attacked with gunfire, rocket-propelled grenades and car bombs in Haditha, northwest of Baghdad, the U.S. military said, adding that an unspecified number of attackers were also killed.
Hitting back, occupation forces killed six resistance fighters and in raids targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq Sunday in Qaem, near the Syrian border, the U.S. military said.
Earlier, gunmen shot and killed a top official in Iraq's Transportation Ministry in Baghdad on Sunday, according to police.
Zoba Yass, director general of the ministry's projects, and his driver were killed in a southern district of the capital as they drove to work, a police officer and officials at the transportation and interior ministries said on condition of anonymity.
