Morocco sent earlier this week new aid to Senegal, consisting of 103,000 litres of pesticides, to support the West African country’s efforts to stop locust invasion and preserve crops.
Last August, Morocco dispatched 2 insecticide-spraying planes, 30,000 litres of pesticide and an anti-locusts specialized team to Senegal. The north African country dispatched later a C 130 Hercules, 13,000 litres of pesticides and equipment for intervention teams.
Senegalese agriculture minister, Habib Sy, expressed his gratitude this week to the Moroccan king and people for their support.
“Thanks to Morocco’s help, Senegal has managed to contain locust swarms invasion, and stop it from reaching the south of the country that accounts for over 80pc of agriculture production,” he said.
The Senegalese figure voiced hope that with the support of Morocco and other countries, Senegal will halt the locust plague. (Albawaba.com)
