The Tunisian Ministry of Religious Affairs, in conjunction with Beit El Hikma Academy of Letters, Science and Arts, organized a seminar on religious discourse and media, which was held June 29 at Beit El Hikma.
<i>La Presse</i> reports that the event featured a long list of political figures as well as professors and experts in the field. Abdelwaheb Abdallah, the Tunisian President advisor, who chaired the seminar, emphasized that since the 18th century Tunisia has always been "a pioneer in reviving the world of Islam and pushed for reformers in its political, social, cultural and intellectual spheres."
He added that religious teachings should not be limited merely to educational-objectives but should also achieve a social and cultural objective, which is to promote tolerance and dialogue. Abdallah stressed that Islam is a religion that preaches for love and cooperation between all people and all social categories.
