The Software Engineering Competence Center (SECC) participates for the first time in GITEX 2006 as part the new approach the center is currently adopting to export its expertise to regional and international markets. The center was established in 2001 as the first strategic partner to the American Software Engineering Institute SMI.
"We have been building our technical expertise and know-how for years with a prime goal to support Egyptian companies in getting worldwide credited certifications that would enable them to take part in international markets," said Dr, Gamal Mohamed Ali, SECC Chairman. He pointed out that the center's mission is to transfer knowledge and train calibers to later on be able to train others and grant certifications.
In less than five years, the center has been successful enough to be granted the accreditation of the SMI, the only international body offering licenses to worldwide partners to grant CMMI certificates on all levels. Being SMI partner, the SECC is entitled to offer trainings, consultations and evaluation, and will officially start to provide SCAMPI appraisal services commercially worldwide except in USA by the beginning on 2007.
Dr. Ali added that GITEX exhibition is an ideal opportunity for introducing the center to the Gulf markets, especially that a large number of companies and authorities in this particular region have shown keens on cooperating with the SECC. "Through participating in the Egyptian wing, sponsored by the Information Technology Industry Development Agency, to which SECC is affiliated to, we will be able to meet many customers and market our service professionally, especially that we offer an unprecedented service in the region," said Dr. Ali.
Eng. Abeer Khedr, SECC Business Development Unit Manager, pointed out that taking part in GITEX exhibition is a perfect chance for the center to further showcase its services and success stories of 15 Egyptian companies that were able to get CMMI certifications on different levels. Khedr added that eight other Egyptian companies are expected to get CMMI certifications by the first quarter of 2007.
