A Saudi Arabian man opened fire with an automatic rifle at worshippers in a mosque in Al-Kharj, where US troops are stationed, injuring a relative and seven Arabs, according to newspaper reports Saturday.

Prince Abdulrahman bin Nasser, governor of Al-Kharj, 80 kilometers south of Riyadh, said Raja al-Arjani, aged 32, was arrested following the attack, which took place after Friday prayers, Okaz said.

The wounded men included three Sudanese, two Yemenis, an Egyptian and a Syrian, who was in critical condition. The injured relative was hit in the leg.

Prince Abdulrahman denied any link between the shooting and the burning of a McDonald's restaurant in the area in November, adding that the attack was apparently over a family dispute.

He said the assailant, unemployed after being fired from the National Guard, had confessed to the shooting. (Albawaba.com)
