The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced that it intercepted and downed on Tuesday morning a ballistic missile fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen towards the Saudi capital.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki accused the Houthis of deliberately launching the missile towards civilian areas in Riyadh.

The Houthis fired the rocket from Yemen’s Sanaa, he added, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The coalition had on Monday intercepted and downed eight booby-trapped drones and three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards the Kingdom.

Malki had accused the Houthis of deliberately targeting civilians and residential areas in these terrorist acts, describing them a flagrant violations of international humanitarian law.

The Houthis’ use of explosives-laden drones underscores their extremist view towards innocent civilians, Malki said, stressing that the coalition joint operations command is taking all necessary measures to protect innocent lives.

It will take firm and appropriate measures to bring a halt to such terrorist acts in line with international humanitarian law, he vowed.
