ALBAWABA- Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday welcomed Malaysia’s King Ibrahim bin Sultan Iskandar at the Royal Court in Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, marking the first state visit by a Malaysian monarch to the Kingdom in 41 years.

An official reception was held in honor of the Malaysian ruler, followed by high-level talks focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two Muslim-majority nations.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, discussions centered on enhancing cooperation across a range of sectors, including the economy, defense, geopolitics, and Islamic affairs, as well as broader issues of mutual interest.

The Malaysian royal palace described the trip as a landmark “state visit” aimed at reinforcing both countries’ commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. The four-day visit underscores a renewed push by Kuala Lumpur to deepen engagement with Riyadh, which stands as Malaysia’s 14th-largest trading partner. Bilateral trade between the two nations reached RM44.74 billion (US$9.79 billion) in 2024.

The last official visit by a Malaysian monarch to Saudi Arabia was made in 1984 by the late Sultan Ahmad Shah. This week’s visit is expected to yield new avenues of collaboration between the two influential members of the Islamic world, as both nations seek to align economic and diplomatic priorities in an evolving global landscape.
