A security agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran will be signed before the hajj season that starts late February, Saudi minister of interior, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, was quoted as saying by the Saudi News Agency (SPA) Thursday.
The minister's announcement came upon his arrival from Tunisia where he participated in the meetings of the 18th session of the Arab ministers of interior, said the agency.
The minister said that the kingdom is waiting Iran to set a date for signing the agreement.
Kuwait's News Agency (KUNA) quoted the minister as saying last week that the agreement includes combating crime terrorism and drugs, in addition to extraditing suspects wanted for trial.
Iranian President Mohammed Khatami, who visited Saudi Arabia in May, has worked to improve Tehran's relations with Riyadh since his 1997 election.
The two Gulf nations broke off relations for four years after more than 400 people were killed in 1987 clashes between Saudi security forces and Iranian pilgrims in Mecca demonstrating against Israel and the United States -- Albawaba.com
